UTA Lady Mavs Photo Essay

I had a lot of fun creating this photo essay of the Lady Mavericks during one of their home stretches. The experience is quite entertaining and always leaves me wanting to take more pictures. This wasn’t the easiest photoshoot that I have had. I had to run through a little bit of a relearning curve with the camera I was using. I had not taken pictures for a basketball event in quite some time. So from the beginning of the game to sometime in the mid 2nd quarter, I had to reteach myself how everything worked.

The first problem came as the teams were running out of the tunnel for the first game of the weekend. I had completely forgotten how to change my shutter speed. So when I reviewed the photos after they had all the players came out, it had looked like a bunch of ghosts had just passed by in my camera. It was all blurry! It knew that I was going to have to figure this out quickly or I would be in trouble for the rest of the game. I quickly sat down and began messing with the camera’s settings. Luckily by reading online, I was able to figure out how to change the shutter. I had not missed that much game action so I was still confident in the material that I could get. Which my photos still came out good.

The next challenge I faced was making sure that I had a variety. I had caught myself numerous times taking the same type of pictures. I had to keep reminding myself that no photo gallery is entertaining to look at if all the pictures are identical. I really challenged myself during the 2nd game of the weekend to get different angles that a viewer wouldn’t always see. I wanted to get low and high angles to add a unique viewing experience to the gallery. Shooting Lady Mavs always gives me a rush. The emotion I capture from the players is priceless. I love watching a basketball team come together to win a game. What’s your favorite sport to watch?
